Chapter I
Gather the party
Open your war room and share the room code — players join from their own phones in seconds. No accounts, no downloads, just a code and a table ready for battle.
Chapter II
Set the stage before the first swing
Add every player and monster, set starting HP, roll initiative, and flag special cases like the Alert feat — all before combat even starts.
Chapter III
Run combat without slowing down
Initiative order, HP bars, conditions, and kill tracking, all visible at a glance so the table keeps moving instead of waiting on the DM's notes.
Chapter IV
The players ride along
Every player carries the battle in their pocket — the lobby, their initiative roll, the running order, and a nudge the moment it's their turn. All synced live with the DM's table.
Chapter V
Reset and go again
One click ends the encounter and clears the field for the next fight — perfect for back-to-back combats in a single session.
Questions from the table
The things people ask before they run their first encounter with it.
Is Torch & Turn free?
Yes — completely. There are no ads, no subscription, and no paid tier holding features back. It's a hobby project, not a business.
Do players need an account to join?
No. Nobody needs an account — not the DM, not the players. There is no sign-up step at all. You open the app, start a war room, and share the code.
How do players join a combat?
Every war room gets a two-word code, like OATH-CHARM. Players open the site on their own phone, type the code, and they're in. No app store, no download, no invite links to chase.
Does it work on a phone?
It's built phone-first, because that's what players actually have at the table. Most DMs run it on a tablet or laptop while everyone else follows along on their own phone. You can add it to your home screen and it opens like a normal app.
What does it actually track?
Initiative order, current and maximum HP, conditions, the round counter, and who has dropped. The DM sees the full picture; players see the running order and a nudge when their turn comes up.
Do I have to track everything in it?
No, and that's deliberate. Tracking is optional throughout — if you'd rather keep monster HP in your head or on paper, the app doesn't nag you for it. It's meant to take work off the DM, not add a data-entry chore.
Which edition is it built for?
D&D 5th edition — initiative, hit points and the standard conditions. Because it tracks the fundamentals rather than enforcing a rules engine, plenty of tables use it for other d20 games without trouble.
Do I need to sign up to try it?
No. Since there are no accounts, there's nothing to commit to — open it, start a room, and see whether it suits how you run combat. Nothing personal is collected along the way.
